INTRODUCTION
When creating this piece I wanted to use environmental storytelling to make the player wonder where they are, why they are here and what's happened in a way that makes it memorable for the player.

You are a french soldier returning to your home village looking to retrieve an old painting made by your father that was gifted to your village's community house when you were a child. Now you have to find your way through the crumbling village to find the painting.
The level takes the player through a small village after the second world war has ended and now the player has to find their way through, under and over crumbling houses of the village.
My inspiration came from wanting to create an environmental storytelling piece and wanting a place or moment that would have the possibility to tell multiple different stories or one singular story decently well.
My inspiration for the levels theme comes from my French heritage and that led to making a French village, whatever the original story was that you were a mercenary hired to find an old painting in an abandoned village after World War II.
My story later changed to but you're a soldier returning from war wanting to retrieve your father's painting.
When it came to the production of the project, I would say it went quite well and followed the plan during the first three weeks.
During the first three weeks I created the simple interactions in the level and got the level up to a rough Whitebox level And this is what I originally planned to start going more into the environmental story aspect of a level.
But after feedback I started working on improving the level of detail and feel of the level Instead of putting time and energy on having stronger pieces of environmental story telling.
Where I think I made a mistake was when it came to taking the feedback. Instead of focusing on the feedback that would improve my main focus being environmental storytelling I focused on the general feedback that made the level look and feel better.
But if I had focused on feedback that would have improved my environmental storytelling and if I had planned better and connected my story more to the level design I would have achieved my goal for the level.
What I think went well with my level is that I created a modular kit that made it very easy to create a good looking level that fit my theme.
Which makes it a great base from which if I had more time I could have added more environmental storytelling and rewritten the story to actually achieve the goal for my level.
